A basic definition of community is a group of people who have something in common. That’s what the PTO is; a group of people with a common interest in enriching the educational and social experiences for our kids. We’re parents and teachers that operate an independent nonprofit to serve that interest. We listen, we learn, we speak up, we volunteer, and we contribute as much as we can. Without our collective efforts, our PTO community wouldn’t exist.
Throughout the year, the PTO organizes fundraising and community events. Fundraising events like Jog-A-Thon, Dine & Donates, and the Auction bring in the money to fund the community events like Movie Night, Dance Night, and Superman/Superwoman Day. Profits from the fundraising events and membership dues also help pay for instructional aides and other desired classroom enrichment such as current technology and educational tools. Sometimes profits also help us purchase new things like the awesome new playground! Way to go, PTO! These events take time to organize and coordinate beforehand, and then staff appropriately to make sure the event runs smoothly. Volunteers make this possible. YOU make this possible. Your board cannot do it all. We need your help.
The best way you can help is by joining the PTO and volunteering when you can. We have many ways you can volunteer your time and/or contribute financially throughout the year. You can join at any time, and you can participate as little or as much as your schedule allows. We understand the demands of family and work life, as we ourselves deal with those same demands.
All of us are new to the board this year. Some of us have volunteered a bit for the PTO in the past, but all of us heard the call for new board members last year when the prior board was stepping down. We did not want to see this community disintegrate to the detriment of our kids. We have to keep it going... and we have to keep planning for the future. If you would like to help us lead this organization, or simply learn more about the PTO, please get in touch.
We hope to see many of you at our meetings and events throughout 2017-2018. Please find us and introduce yourselves. We want you to all feel a part of this community. It’s going to be a great year!
